On a creative whim after being stuck indoors all day because of the crazy rain bucketing down outside, James and I decided to make ourselves some wax melts to use in my little burner.
We took a look at a heap of recipes online that showed us how to make these and decided we would take all that information and just make up our own recipe!
Here's what we used
- 4 TBSP Organic Beeswax pellets
- 2 TBSP Coconut oil
- 30 drops of essential oils (we used grapefruit and sweet orange and it smells amazing!)
As you can tell from that ingredients list, this is a seriously simple recipe! Anyone could make these!
So here's how we went about making our melts.
First up we put the beeswax pellets and the coconut oil in a glass Pyrex measuring bowl. We don't have a double boiler so we made our own.
Then we had some water boiling in a pot underneath to get our mixture all nice and melty! The bottom of the glass bowl was in the boiling water but not touching the bottom of the pot.
We stirred our mixture every so often to help it melt nice and evenly.
After it was all melted properly we took it off the stove and pulled the bowl out of the hot water. We then added the 30 drops of essential oils. We did 15 grapefruit and 15 sweet orange. Mmmm, citrus-y goodness! Basically we chose those oils because they were the two that actually smelt good out of the very few oils I own. You could use 30 drops of whatever oils you wanted.
Essential Oil Benefits
After having a little Google about these essential oils I'm happy I chose them! They both have some excellent benefits.
Grapefruit essential oils are said to help with
- Disinfecting surfaces
- Cleansing the body
- Reducing depression
- Stimulating the immune system
- Decreasing fluid retention
- Curbing sugar cravings
- Helping with weight loss
Sweet orange essential oils are helpful with
- Fighting cancerous tumors
- Increasing circulation
- Killing bacteria and pathogens
- Decreasing wrinkles
- Improving complexion
- Easing anxiety
- Decreasing hypertension
Before I go on I do want to mention that although essential oils have a lot of amazing, natural health benefits, they can be dangerous. Read up how to safely use them and you'll be fine!
Now mix it up and there you have it! The mixture for these lovely little melts.
We poured the liquid melts into mini muffin tins to set. It made 4 melts. They were the perfect size! When they melted down they filled the burner but didn't overflow. We waited about 3-4 hours and they were set! Ready to use!
We had such a lot of fun together making these little melts! I can tell you for sure we will definitely be making them again!
What scent would you use for your melts? Have you ever tried making these?
